Connect hosting and multiplayer providers for your room and game servers: Edgegap, Amazon GameLift, i3D.net, i3D.net FlexMetal and Photon

Written by Jason Liang

The App > Design > Integrations > Multiplayer page connects third-party hosting and multiplayer providers for your room and game servers: Edgegap, Amazon GameLift, i3D.net (including FlexMetal) and Photon.

Each provider has its own panel. Click a panel to expand it, turn on Enable to show its settings, and click Save Changes in that panel to save it. Each panel is saved separately. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, you are asked to confirm.

The settings on this page are app-wide credentials. The servers that use them (which provider, region, fleet or application to launch) are configured per server under App > Design > Servers > My Servers.

Edgegap

Edgegap is a cloud hosting platform that automates multiplayer game server deployment globally, using edge computing to place servers closer to players.

Edgegap has no app-wide settings on this page. All Edgegap settings, such as the API key, application and version, are configured for each server on the My Servers page.

GameLift

Amazon GameLift is a managed service for deploying, operating and scaling dedicated game servers for session-based multiplayer games. brainCloud uses these credentials to place game sessions in your GameLift queues when a lobby launches a GameLift server.

  • IAM Access Key and IAM Secret Key: the AWS IAM credentials brainCloud uses to call GameLift. The IAM user needs permission to start and describe game session placements in your queues.

The placement queues for each region are set in the GameLift server's configuration on the My Servers page. If the GameLift integration is missing or disabled, launches fail with "Missing gamelift integration or disabled."

Note: the Test button does not currently verify your AWS credentials against AWS. A successful test does not guarantee that the keys work, so confirm your setup by launching a server from a lobby.

For more on using GameLift with brainCloud lobbies, see Using brainCloud lobbies with your GameLift servers.

i3D.net

i3D.net is a global hosting provider specializing in low-latency infrastructure for gaming. brainCloud uses this integration to allocate i3D.net application instances when a lobby launches an i3D.net server.

The i3D.net application to launch is set in each server's configuration on the My Servers page. If the integration is missing or disabled, launches fail with "Missing i3D integration or disabled."

i3D.net FlexMetal

FlexMetal provides dedicated i3D.net bare-metal hosts that brainCloud can manage for your room servers.

  • API Key: your i3D.net API key, available from the i3D.net Dashboard.

  • SSH Key: the SSH key used to access the hosts.

  • CA Certificate, Server Certificate, Server Key, Client Certificate and Client Key: the certificates and keys used to communicate securely with the hosts. Paste each one in PEM format, including the -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- / -----END CERTIFICATE----- or -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- / -----END PRIVATE KEY----- lines. A value in any other format shows "Invalid Key".

Although the page lets you save with some fields empty, FlexMetal only works when all of these fields are filled in. If any are missing, brainCloud treats FlexMetal as not configured for the app, and features such as pre-warmed hosts are not available.

Photon

Photon is a multiplayer networking platform. Enabling this integration lets Photon check with brainCloud that a player has a valid brainCloud session before admitting them to a room, using Photon's custom authentication.

When Photon is enabled, register the following in your Photon application as a custom authentication provider, in the Photon Dashboard:

  • Authentication URL: the URL Photon should call. It shows "Available after saving" until you save the integration for the first time. Use the copy button to copy it.

  • Secret: the shared secret Photon must send with each authentication request. Send it as an x-bc-secret header (recommended). It can also be passed as a secret query parameter, but query strings are recorded in access logs. The secret may contain only letters, numbers and dashes.

A secret is generated automatically the first time you save. Click Regenerate to create a new one. The new secret takes effect when you click Save Changes, and every Photon connection fails until you paste the new secret into your Photon dashboard. Turning the integration off and on again keeps the existing secret.

Each authentication request from Photon is counted against your app's usage.

Permissions

Write access to this page is required to change any provider settings. Users with read-only access can view the page, but all controls are disabled.
